Paddy Kenny Likes Pain

I never thought there would be a story involving Paddy Kenny that is more painful to think about than having an eyebrow bitten off in a fight, but this one comes pretty close in the pain department. The summer months are usually a time for players to do nothing in between drinking beer and drinking more beer. The Sheffield United keeper didn’t get that memo.

Kenny recently completed three marathons in three consecutive days. That is 78.6 miles of running for those of you mathematically inclined. That is an absurd amount of pain for those of you who are like me and have trouble making it up three flights of stairs without pausing to eat some cookies.

The Ireland international had never run more than 10 miles before and after he finished getting his Forest Gump on he said, “It’s the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Far harder than pre-season training. I have blisters on blisters but I did it and if I was asked to do it again I would, especially after all these people turned up to welcome us home.”

Kenny took part in the extreme fun not as a form of punishment because of his team’s relegation from the Premiership, but rather to raise a bundle of money for a local hospice in Sheffield.
